Pheasants Forever
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are dedicated to conserving pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat restoration, expanded public access, education, and conservation advocacy. The Gettysburg Nature Alliance is proud to announce a new 10-year partnership with Pheasants Forever right here on our property. Together, we will restore 12 acres by removing invasive species and planting native grasses, creating a thriving habitat for pheasants, quail, and a wide variety of native bird species. pheasantsforever.org
South Mountain Partnership
The South Mountain Partnership is a regional, landscape-scale conservation effort in south-central Pennsylvania that guides initiatives within the South Mountain Conservation Landscape—one of seven designated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Launched in 2006 as a public-private collaboration between DCNR and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the Partnership has grown into a diverse alliance of citizens, businesses, nonprofits, academic institutions, and government agencies working together to ensure a sustainable future for the region. The Gettysburg Nature Alliance (GNA) actively participates in this effort by regularly attending meetings to stay informed on current and upcoming projects, and by contributing to discussions and initiatives whenever applicable. www.southmountainpartnership.org
The American Chestnut Foundation
On the grounds of the Gettysburg Nature Alliance, you’ll discover a native tree grove that holds a very special story. Among the trees are American Chestnuts—planted more than 10 years ago through the support and guidance of our partners at the American Chestnut Foundation.These trees have been carefully tended and observed as part of ongoing efforts to better understand and restore this once-dominant species. Some of the trees are thriving, while others have struggled against harsh winters or show visible signs of blight. Each outcome, however, plays an important role in the research and development process—bringing us one step closer to the ultimate goal: a blight-resistant American Chestnut that can once again flourish in our forests.
